Kaufman's Adaptation is a film adaptation of The Orchid Thief, a nonfiction account of a conspiracy to clone a rare orchid and of the web of orchid enthusiasts who make up the black market for rare flowers.
Kaufman's film centers on a fictionalized version of Kaufman, who is suffering writer's block while attempting to write the adaptation of the book. Thus the film is an adaptation of a book, where the central conceit is not the book, but the adaptation of a book that itself touches—at least peripherally—with the Darwinian concept of adaptation.
